- Managed Service (SaaS) - SoftwareKey.com maintains our hosting platform at a commercial data center with physical security, redundant cooling, UPS and generator backups that are tested regularly, as well as multiple Tier 1 connections to the Internet. Only specific people are allowed inside of the data center facility, and only designated employees are allowed to connect to our servers through a Virtual Private Network. We have redundant firewalls and multiple front-end web servers that operate in a load-balanced, failover configuration. We employ multiple database servers. All servers are backed up to disk and tape daily. We use numerous third-party commercial monitoring services to monitor our hosting facility from 21 locations around the world every 5 minutes.
- IT Infrastructure Portability - Because the application uses a domain name that you own and a completely isolated database, the application can be moved to any IT infrastructure with minimal downtime and no re-configuration of software application or additional employee training. For this reason, Instant SOLO Server Shared URL is not recommended if you intend to eventually host the application internally.
- Application Type - SOLO Server is our flagship activation server, geared towards customers who want a turnkey solution for licensing and product activation. It is a compiled application, ready to be installed and used out-of-the-box. SOLO Lite is a small sample reference application including all source code that demonstrates basic license validation and activation techniques.
- Web service interfaces - SOLO Server has many Web Service interfaces that can be used for remote programmatic access to the database.
- Advanced Database Structure - SOLO Server tracks a customer record for each customer, with multiple license records for each software entitlement (a one-to-many relationship). Searching for a customer profile in SOLO Server quickly provides the contact details for that customer, as well as a detailed inventory of all licenses assigned to the customer. There are over 100 database tables in the SOLO Server database schema. SOLO Lite, however, maintains a single database table to track customer and license data (a one-to-one relationship), and each customer's license record has a copy of the customer's contact details (although the contact details do not need to be used). There are 6 database tables in the SOLO Lite database schema.
- Activation web services - There are new activation Web Services and several advanced activation features available in SOLO Server as defined by the SOLO Server New Activation Features whitepaper.
- Subscription Management - You have the ability to fully automate and manage a subscription version of your software. You design the parameters of how your subscription service will function, including the length of the subscription, the terms of subscription renewals and cancellations, as well as the assignment of optional grace periods. Software subscriptions can be tied to software activation, or can simply be used as a record of software maintenance expiration information.
- Security Velocity Checking - SOLO Server has many velocity checks to block IP addresses of those attempting to guess a license key and an administrator login. There are several other built in features and recommendations for best practices on SQL Server database hardening to minimize risk of server attacks.
- Merchant Account Required - A merchant account and compatible payment gateway are required to use the SOLO Server shopping cart. A credit card payment gateway is a service which links your site to a merchant bank network. What are my options for obtaining my own merchant account?
